This checklist is intended to help cinema operators to reopen their cinemas by going through step by step all the necessary hygiene and safety measures required by the COVID 19 virus. Depending on the type of cinema, local and own specifications, the list can be supplemented by further checklist items or deleted if not applicable.

Cinemas are encouraged to make use of the possibilities of remote ticketing to compensate for capacity constraints.

Pay attention to the correct distance between the guests in the cinema:Maintain at least two empty seats (or a distance of two metres) between the parties in each row, except as follows- Two or more members of the same household may sit side by side, with two seats (or six feet apart) free on each side.- Two people who do not belong to the same household but who are participating together can sit next to each other, with two seats (or two metres apart) free on either side.
Alternating rows between customers (every second row remains empty).
Disinfect seats and frequently touched surfaces between demonstrations.
For cinemas that offer catering to their guests:
Do not leave seasonings, cutlery, glassware or other traditional household items on an unoccupied table.
Provide seasonings only on request and in (non-reusable) one-way portions.
Clean and disinfect the dining area (table etc.) after each group of customers leaving the cinema.
Use disposable menus (new for each customer).
If the cinema allows customers to place their food orders in the cinema, provide pencils and notepads that cannot be used by other customers.
Allow operators to wash or disinfect hands between interactions with customers.
Cinemas with counter catering for the visitors:
Supply spices or cutlery for single use only, individually packaged items, and provide spice dishes only on request.
Ensure that employees follow the proper protocols for handling food.
Disinfect all objects that come into contact with customers.
Contactless payment is desired. Where this is not possible, the contact should be kept as low as possible.
Health Protocols for the Cinema Staff
Training of all employees in proper cleaning and disinfection, hand hygiene and respiratory protection labels.
Check out employees before they go to the movies:
Send home any employee who has any of the following new or worsening signs or symptoms of possible COVID-19- Cough- shortness of breath or difficulty breathing- Chills- Repeated shaking with chills- Muscle aches- Headaches- Sore throat- Loss of taste or smell- Diarrhoea- fever or a measured temperature higher or equal to 38 degrees Celsius/100.4 degrees Fahrenheit- Known close contact with a person confirmed in the laboratory to be COVID-19
Do not allow employees with the new or worsening signs or symptoms listed above to return to work until- In the case of an employee who has been diagnosed with COVID-19, the person may return to work if all three of the following criteria are met: (1) at least 3 days (72 hours) have passed since recovery (elimination of fever without the use of antipyretic drugs); (2) the person has an improvement in respiratory symptoms (e.g. cough, shortness of breath); (3) at least 7 days have passed since the first appearance of symptomsOR - In the case of a worker who has symptoms that could be COVID-19 and is not examined by a doctor or tested for COVID-19, the person is presumed to have COVID-19 and the person shall not return to work until he or she has met the same three-step criteria listed aboveOR- If the employee has symptoms that could indicate COVID-19 and wishes to return to work before the end of the above-mentioned self-isolation phase, the person must receive a medical certificate that releases the person for return on the basis of an alternative diagnosis.
Do not allow an employee with known close contact with a person whose COVID-19 has been laboratory confirmed to return to his or her work place until the end of the 14-day self quarantine period from the last date of exposure (with an exception granted to healthcare workers and critical infrastructure workers).
Have employees wash or disinfect their hands when entering the cinema and between interactions with customers.
Allow employees to maintain a minimum distance of 2 meters from other people. If such distancing is not feasible, other measures such as face covering, hand hygiene, cough etiquette, cleanliness and hygiene should be rigorously practiced.
If an employer provides a meal for employees, the employer is recommended to have the meal packed individually for each employee.
In line with the measures taken by many companies across the country, consideration should be given to ensuring that all employees wear textile face protection (over nose and mouth). If available, employees should consider wearing non-medical face masks.
Hygiene Protocols for the Cinema Rooms/Equipment
Clean and disinfect regularly and frequently all surfaces that are regularly touched, such as door handles, tables, chairs and toilets.
Disinfect all objects that come into contact with customers.
Make hand sanitizers, disinfectant wipes, soap and water or similar disinfectants easily accessible to employees and customers.
Put up highly visible signs at the cinema to remind everyone of best hygiene practices.
Clean and disinfect the area used for eating (table, etc.) according to each customer group, including the disinfection of tables, chairs, cabins and worktops.
