Signs and Posters

Put up signs at designated entrance points to the school campus to remind people to avoid entering the facility if they have a cough or fever, keep a minimum distance of two meters from each other, and avoid shaking hands and unnecessary physical contact.

Leave a copy of the Social Distancing Protocol at the entrances.

Put up posters at school that promote proper handwashing

Consider involving the student community in developing communication or creative strategies to contain the spread of the virus.

Send digital versions of posters and signs by e-mail.

Measures to Maintain Safe Classrooms

Tables should be arranged so that they are at least 2 metres apart and point in the same direction (instead of facing each other) to reduce the transmission of virus-containing droplets (e.g. through talking, coughing, sneezing).

Consider using visual aids (e.g. painter's tape, stickers, etc.) to illustrate traffic flow and appropriate distances.

Consider the possibility of using distance learning methods in the classroom.

Send copies of this plan to pupils.

Measures to Protect Pupils Outside the Classroom

Consider staggering arrival/departure times and dividing entrances for students, rather than directing all students through the same entrance area.

Cancel/re-schedule activities and events such as excursions, student meetings, sporting events, special performances, exercises and school-wide parent meetings.

Consider transitioning from excursions to free virtual activities.

Consider staggering the use of playgrounds in childcare or preschool, rather than having several classes play together. Restrict other activities where several classes play together.

Consider cleaning the areas with high contact density on the playing surface between the groups.

Restrict unnecessary visits.

Remember how important it is not to eat or drink together during breaks.

Measures to Improve Sanitation

Ensure that suitable cleaning agents (e.g. disinfectant wipes) are available for cleaning surfaces with high contact.

Provide hand disinfectants and wipes for use by students and staff.

Stress the importance of hand cleaning routines. Ask staff and students to ensure that when entering the building and to wash their hands when leaving the classroom or other rooms in the school building.

Educate students about the importance of washing their faces during a day not to touch and if they do, that they have to wash their hands.

Hold staff meetings virtually or in a room large enough to allow social distancing.

Enable vocational training virtually whenever possible.

Explore opportunities for employees who cannot be in school due to their own high-risk conditions or those of their family members to do their work in alternative spaces (e.g. teleworking).

Identify staff who cannot be at school because of their own high-risk conditions and consult with them about offering distance learning to those students who are also unable to attend.

Send copies of this plan to school staff.
