Driver Orientation Checklist


New drivers should only be granted a license if they have the skills to safely navigate the streets without being a danger to others or causing an accident. Unless each checkpoint is marked off with confidence, the testee shouldn’t be allowed to drive without supervision. Weed out the good driver’s from the works in progress with this checklist, and make sure the new driver’s been vetted in the following areas:

Explained the emergency/accident procedure and on board information sheet
Driver has been shown and understands the log sheet
Driver has been shown the buttons that operate the passenger door steps
Driver has been show what to do if the steps fail
Driver has been shown all relevant switches and controls on the dash board
Driver has been shown the gear positions for this bus
Driver has been shown how to perform the "particulate fuel filter" process

Driving Assessment

Driver can adjust driver's seat

Driver brakes smoothly
Driver turns corners smoothly and with good technique
Does the driver ride the clutch?
Is the driver smooth over speed humps?
Does the driver stop before white lines at lights or crossings

Hoist Orientation

Ask the driver if they intend to use the hoist during the hire period. If the answer is NO then proceed to next section If the answer is YES then hoist Orientation must be completed
