Laundry & Linen Services Department
Avoid treating contaminated laundry with minimal agitation.
Put wet contaminated laundry in leak-proof, and colour-coded or marked containers, at the location where it was used.
Bag contaminated laundry at the place of use. Do not arrange or rinse laundry at the place where it was used.
Is the contaminated laundry wet and shows a reasonable possibility of soak-through of or leakage from the bag or container?
Contaminated laundry bags should not be held nearby to the body or pressed when moving to avoid punctures from inappropriately discarded syringes.
Wear proper PPE when handling and/or sorting contaminated laundry.
Use proper lifting methods.
Normal clothes cycles should be used according to the washer and detergent company's instructions.
Disposable and single-use gloves shall not be washed or decontaminated for re-use.
Never mix together cleaning liquids that include ammonia and chlorine. (When mixed together these chemicals create a deadly gas)
Control accumulations of flammable and combustible waste materials and trash so that they do not provide a fire emergency.
Use well-sustained carts with large, low rolling, low resistance wheels, that can move smoothly over mixed flooring as well as gaps between escalators and hallways.
Use mechanical support to reduce the requirement to lift such as spring-loaded clothes platforms.
Contaminated needles and sharps shall not be inclined, recapped or removed. No shearing or breaking permitted.
