The standard regulates the smoke detector maintenance: DIN 14676 This European product standard has been mandatory for smoke detectors since 2008. In addition to the annual maintenance of smoke detectors, it also regulates the met performance criteria. To obtain the corresponding certification, all smoke detectors must undergo a wide variety of test procedures. You can carry out part of the verification and checks internally in your organization. The so-called type testing, which provides proof of conformity, is performed by an independent product certification body. Before you check your smoke detector, one more important thing first: every smoke detector is different, make sure you follow the manufacturer's instructions. The first step in smoke detector maintenance is to press the test button. If the signal from the smoke detector stops beeping after a few seconds, there is a malfunction. In this case, the batteries must be replaced.
