Inspection of Residential Buildings

This template is used by the public administration to carry out an inspection of residential buildings in the municipality. Inspect your building’s interior and exterior for code violations, and make sure there are no pending service requests. Here are a few examples of what this checklist will cover:

Exterior
01 Have all sidewalks and driveways been installed properly?
02 Has the site been graded at least 4" in 10' away from the building?
03 Has the Septic System been finished and graded properly?
04 Have all balconies, porches, stairs, and handrails been installed to proper codes?
05 Have all exterior building surfaces been weather treated properly?
06 If this building has aluminum siding has it been grounded properly?
Interior
07 Has a final Electrical Inspection Certificate been submitted and accepted?
08 Have GFCI receptacles or breakers been installed in all proper locations?
09 Have AFCI receptacles or breakers been installed in all required branch circuits?
10 Have cover plates been installed on all receptacles, switches and junction boxes?
11 Has the face plate been installed on the Electrical Service Panel?
12 Have all Smoke Detectors been installed on a non-switched dedicated circuit?
13 Have all CO Detectors been installed on a non-switched dedicated circuit?
Do all bedrooms have emergency egress?
14 Have all plumbing connections been properly installed and tested?
15 Have all plumbing stack vents been installed through the roof and proper size?
16 Is Safety Glass installed where required?
17 Are all bathroom fans vented directly to the exterior?
18 Have all doors and moldings been installed?
19 Has the heating system been installed and operational?
Inspectors recommendation for Certificate of Occupancy / Completion
Any pictures pertinent to inspection.
Have all violations from previous inspections been Corrected?
Is the building finished to a point that no Occupancy or Safety issues exist?
Should a C of O or C of C be issued at this time? If not why:
