1. General information: Captures essential details such as the date of inspection, inspector’s name, preschool name, and location/room number.
2. Classroom safety: Ensures electrical outlets are covered, cords and wires are secured, sharp objects are stored safely, and heavy items are secured to prevent tipping.
3. Furniture and equipment: Checks the condition of tables and chairs, stability of shelves and storage units, and the appropriateness and condition of toys and materials.
4. Emergency preparedness: Verifies that emergency exits are clearly marked, fire extinguishers are accessible and maintained, emergency contact numbers are posted, and first aid kits are stocked.
5. Health and hygiene: Ensures handwashing stations are clean and stocked, trash bins are emptied regularly, floors and surfaces are clean, and restrooms are in good working order.
6. Playground safety: Assesses the playground surface for debris and hazards, condition and security of playground equipment, and the safety of the ground surface.
7. Supervision and policies: Confirms that supervision policies are posted and followed, child-to-staff ratios are maintained, and safety rules and emergency procedures are reviewed regularly.
8. Food safety: Checks the cleanliness and sanitation of food preparation areas, proper storage of perishable foods, documentation and adherence to food allergies and dietary restrictions, and hygienic serving of snacks and meals.
9. Illness and injury prevention: Ensures sick children and staff are sent home promptly, policies for managing illness outbreaks are clear, incident reports are completed, and medications are stored securely.
