Work Environment

Is there sufficient lighting in the workplace?

Are respirators readily available for all employees?

Are chemical spill kits readily available to staff?

Are there safety showers and eye-wash stations readily available for any staff handling corrosive chemicals?

Are there exit doors located in any room where chemicals are being used?

Is the working area clean and free of any objects that could inflict accidental injury?

Is there appropriate ventilation in the area for employees handling hazardous chemicals (like a fan or window)?

Handling of Chemicals

Are there any leaks visible in or around any of the containers holding chemicals?

Are all chemicals sealed with an air-tight lid?

Are all containers that hold chemicals in good, work repair, free of dents or punctures?

Are any and all chemical containers properly labelled?

Storing of Chemicals

Are there chemicals stored on top of other chemicals that interact dangerously with each other?

Are the chemicals inventory accurately represented?

Are any and all chemicals stored in their proper locations?

Are any and all chemicals only accessible to authorized personnel?

Disposing of Chemicals

Is there a record kept of any disposed-of chemicals?

Are proper procedures being followed when dealing with the disposal of chemicals?

Is there a separate sink dedicated to appropriate chemical waste?

Are waste containers tightly closed?

Is there a separate and safe location for the disposal of chemical waste?

Are bins labeled according to their appropriate type of waste stream?

Are facilities available for different types chemical waste streams (as in liquid or solid waste, etc.)?
