Daily crane inspection checklist

During daily inspection, examine all control mechanisms for maladjustments that could interfere with proper operation. Check that all controls respond correctly, move smoothly, and return to neutral when released. Verify that emergency stop buttons function properly and ensure there are no loose, damaged, or missing components in the control panel or remote system.

When inspecting wire ropes, look for visible damage like kinking, crushing, bird-caging, or strand displacement. Run a gloved hand along the rope to feel for broken wires. Check attachment points for security and examine for any signs of corrosion, especially where ropes contact sheaves. Document any issues and replace ropes showing significant wear or more than six broken wires in one lay.

When documenting deficiencies, record the specific component affected, nature of the issue, date discovered, and severity level. Note whether the deficiency affects safe operation and requires immediate repair. Include photos when possible and ensure documentation is signed by the inspector. Store records for at least three months as required by OSHA or longer based on company policy.

During daily inspections, check hydraulic systems for leaks at connections, cylinders, pumps, and valves. Look for puddles under the equipment and oil streaks on cylinders. Verify proper fluid levels and condition, watching for discoloration that indicates contamination. Check hoses for cracks, bulges, or abrasion, and ensure pressure gauges operate properly and show readings within normal ranges.
