Audit
Review of the Emergency Plan
Have you developed a contingency plan?
Have escape procedures and routes for emergencies been developed and communicated to all employees?
Is the employee alarm system, which warns of emergency measures, recognisable and perceptible in relation to the environmental conditions?
Are the alarm systems properly maintained and tested?
Is the emergency plan periodically reviewed and revised?
Are employees aware of their responsibilities for reporting emergencies?
Are employees aware of their responsibilities during an emergency?
Exit Doors
Are the doors that are to serve as exits designed and constructed in such a way that the way of the way is obvious and direct?
Are windows that could be confused with exits made inaccessible by railings or barricades?
Are the doors of exits capable of opening in the direction of travel? (opening outwards instead of inwards)
May an overhead door not be used as a mandatory exit door?
Exit or Driveway
Are all exits marked and illuminated with an exit sign?
Are the directions to the exits, if not visible, marked with a visible sign?
Are doors, passages and stairs that are not exits marked accordingly?
Are the exit signs marked at least 5 inches high and 1/2 inch wide?
Are all exit doors hinged to the side?
Are all exits kept free of obstacles and unlocked?
Are there at least two exits from elevated platforms, pits or rooms?
Are there enough exits to allow a quick escape in case of an incident?
Are glass doors hardened and meet the requirements for human exposure?
Fire Protection Plan
Is there a fire protection plan?
Does the plan describe the types of fire protection equipment and/or systems?
Are all employees informed about the fire hazards of the materials and processes to which they are exposed?
Are fire alarms tested at least annually?
Have practices and procedures been established to control potential fire hazards?
Are sprinkler heads protected where there is a potential for property damage?
Is there sufficient clearance for sprinkler systems?
Are portal-type fire extinguishers available in sufficient number and type?
Are fire extinguishers installed in accessible locations?
Are fire extinguishers serviced annually and checked monthly?
Are the employees trained in the operation of fire extinguishers?
Combustible and Flammable Materials
Are flammable materials, debris and waste stored in covered metal containers and removed from the working environment?
Are appropriate storage methods used to minimize the risk of fire and spontaneous combustion?
Are approved containers and tanks used for the storage and handling of flammable and combustible liquids?
Are all flammable liquids stored in containers when not in use?
Are all connections on drums and flammable liquids tight?
Are bulk containers with flammable liquids earthed and bonded on delivery?
Do storage rooms for flammable and combustible materials have explosion profile luminaires?
Do storage rooms have mechanical or gravity ventilation?
Are safe practices applied when storing, handling or using liquid oil?
Are all solvent wastes and flammable liquids stored in fireproof containers and covers?
Are all fire extinguishers loaded and located in the correct area?
Are no-smoking signs posted and enforced?
Are stains removed immediately?
General Working Environment
Are all workplaces clean and tidy?
Is all spilled material removed immediately?
Are the work surfaces kept dry or are appropriate measures taken to ensure that the surfaces are non-slip?
Are combustible deposits and waste safely stored and removed immediately?
Are metal cover containers used for oily or paint-soaked waste?
Is there a minimum number of bathrooms?
Are the toilets clean?
Is there sufficient lighting in the work areas?
